EMERGENCYSTART-UP If the Lancia CODE system cannotdeactivate the engine immobilisingsystem, the warning lights ¢ and Ustay on and the engine will not start.Follow the emergency start– up pro-cedure to start the engine.Read the whole procedure care-fully before trying to carry it out.If you make a mistake in the emer-gency procedure, you must turn theignition key back to STOP and repeatthe whole operation from the begin-ning (step 1).1761) Read the five digit electronic codeon the CODE card.2) Turn the ignition key to MAR.3) Press and hold down the acceler-ator pedal. The injection systemwarning light U will come on forabout eight seconds, and then go out.At this point release the acceleratorpedal and get ready to count theflashes of warning light U.4) Count the number of flashes thatcorresponds to the first figure of thecode on the CODE card, then pressthe accelerator pedal and keep itdown until the U warning lightcomes on for four seconds and thengoes out; release the accelerator pedal.5) The U warning light will startflashing again: after it has flashed thenumber of times that corresponds tothe second figure on the CODE card,press the accelerator pedal to the floorand keep it there.6) Do the same for the remainingdigts on the CODE card.7) Once the final figure has been en-tered, keep the accelerator pedalpressed. The U warning light willlight up for four seconds and then goout; release the accelerator pedal.8) The U warning light will flashrapidly for about four seconds to in-dicate that the operation has beencompleted correctly.9) Start the engine by turning the ig- nition key from MAR to AVV. If, however, warning light Ustays on, turn the ignition key to STOP and repeat the procedure from step 1). IMPORTANT After an emergency start, you should contact a Lancia Dealership as you will have to repeat the procedure described each time you want to start the engine.
